Unrealistic Expectations: Disney Edition

Hey boys and dolls! How are you?

In the last few posts we talked about some serious stuff so I wanted to light up the mood a bit by doing something completely different.

If you have read my 50 Things About Me post, you know I’m a huge Disney fan so I must share with you some unrealistic expectations I had as a kid. I mean, it’s not like I had major expectations but still!

Amazing Hair.

land happy excited hair ariel
That’s not hard to see. In Disney movies even Mulan with a sward can pull off a mid-bob and look amazing. God damn, even Ariel who brushes her hair with a fork can have a great wavy bright red hair, and she’s on water for God’s sake! Me on the other hand canโ€™t even brush my hair without a tangle teezer. And like this wasn’t enough, if I try to turn my hair bright red I’ll end up (at least 2 weeks later) with an orange-ish hair and then *holds respiration in fright* blonde.

Burst into singing is okay

In Disney movies characters always burst into singing like there’s nothing wrong with it. In fact, the whole town starts singing as well and in the end each and everyone returns to their lives like nothing even happened. However, if I ever burst singing in the city, people won’t sing with me and I’m pretty damn sure that those looks will soon enough be turned into a police call because there’s a lunatic singing around town.

Side note: I’m not okay with this!! I want to make a musical out of life! What’s wrong with people?!

angry daria whats wrong with you

Makeup is easily removed

Ha. Hahahaha. HAHAHAHA. NO, I’m TOTALLY FINE with this *cries in spanish and in every other languages*

Getting ready is super easy

disney dress cinderella mice prince charming
In Disney movies, for the princesses to be ready for a ball all they had to do was spin a little bit in the all magic stuff around them or, like Mulan, they would have a lot of people (including mom) to help her and give her a flawless eyeliner look. THIS IS ALL LIES! I take like an hour to get ready and all my mom does is telling me to hurry (okay she does me braids if I ask her to but sill!!)! STOP LYING TO US DAMN IT!!
Does this mean I’m not a real princess?

disney joke kidding phinas and ferb

Toys are real

disney pixar toy story
When I was little I had so much pity for my toys that I took as many as I could to bed with me (specially in the winter) so they would be warm. Soon as my mom found out, she gave me a blanket to cover my toys, but that wasn’t enough for me. โ€˜Till today I’m hoping to hear Little Bear (a bear that has been with me since I’m 2 years old) saying something to me. At the same time, thank God he doesn’t speak. The things he saw… Thank God he doesn’t speak.

And chores are fun!

disney snow white clean pigeon snow white and the 7 dwarfs

If Snow White thought me anything it was that all it takes for a chore to be fun is singing. She was wrong. Chores aren’t fun. Chores are… chores!

What about you? What unrealistic expectation did you have?

Ha, this is an interesting take. It is true that those movies made for kids shape they thoughts and visions of life. Sometimes it all can go in a very wrong direction.

This made me laugh and say to myself, “oh this is right!” but disney or fairy tales are here to make us believe that somethings are possible and worth doing even if it is as crazy as those. At the end of the day they still leave a lesson or two for us.

They are unrealistic, but I didn’t really think about it until I read this post! I was always amazed by how beautiful the hair of those princesses, I tried many times to make my hair like them, but ended up frustrate with my wild wave thick hair hehehe.

lol that was fun. Cartoons never really gave me unrealistic expectations because just the mere fact that they’re cartoons and animated means they’re not real. It’s just fun poking around expectations and reality. XD

your article really made me laugh! I did not thought about it this way… There’s one thing thought that’s really through and it happens all the time in the disney movies: losing the way and then somehow find your way back home again.

Oh yeah! totally agree with this post in so many ways. Btw, this is hilarious. Some other points about Disney movies: everyone can sing if they wanted to. So unrealistic! lol. Also, why does it always have to involve a King or a Queen or a Prince and a Princess. Even The Lion King has a King there. ๐Ÿ˜›

    1. ellaivoire

      19 August, 2016 at 11:21

    19 August, 2016 at 9:47

Each and every point is so damn funny…especially the dressing up and make-up removal part… honestly Disney, are you kidding us? ๐Ÿ˜€
As far as singing goes, oh yes, it is so damn easy to get all the others around you to sing along, while in real world, we get thrashed :p
And chors are enjoyable in real life.. oh yes.. the irony ๐Ÿ™‚
    Lovely post Ella ๐Ÿ™‚

I love many Disney movies, too. But this also made me laugh! =) I agree with you that it takes some time to get dolled up. I spent around 2 hours at the salon last Sunday for my hair and make up alone. The night before that, I spent at least an hour for waxing and pedicure.

When you said light, you did mean light, HAHAHA! Now, being a boy, about the only reason why I would watch shows like Sleeping Beauty would be because of my sisters, other than that, I’d go with the toys that move and talk and do all sorts of crazy stuff.

BUT, I have one Disney movie I super like and I have watched it like more than ten times. THE LION KING! So yes, they sing, and they sing really well… HAKUNA MATATA. Cheers!
